Tom of Finland XXL Description:

In 1998, TASCHEN introduced the world to the masterful art of Touko Laaksonen with The Art of Pleasure. Prior to that, Laaksonen, better known as Tom of Finland, enjoyed an intense cult following in the international gay community but was largely unknown to the broader audience. The Art of Pleasure gave Tom well-deserved recognition and increased his following exponentially; Tom of Finland XXL will fix him forever in the realm of fine art.

With dimensions of 29 by 40.5cm and 704 pages, Tom of Finland XXL contains nearly 1000 images, covering 6 decades of the artist’s career. The work was gathered from all known collections across the US and Europe with the help of the Tom of Finland Foundation and features many drawings, paintings and preparatory sketches that have never been reproduced in any book. Other images have only been seen out of context and will be presented here in the sequential order Tom intended for full artistic appreciation and erotic impact. This elegant oversized volume will showcase the full range of Tom’s talent, from sensitive portraits to frank sexual pleasure to tender expressions of love to Tom’s haunting tributes to young men struck down by the AIDS epidemic.

Completing this collector’s edition are eight specially-commissioned essays on Tom’s social and personal impact by Camille Paglia, John Waters, Armistead Maupin, Todd Oldham, and others, plus a scholarly analysis of individual drawings by art historian Edward Lucie-Smith. For the man or woman who thinks bigger is better, Tom of Finland XXL is certain to satisfy.

Customer Reviews:

Finally a book big enough enough to answer all the complaints about earlier collections!!!
I have a majority of the earlier TOF collections. The most universal complaint has always been “Its too small”, with the exception of the 1st printing of the “Art of Pleasure” this was the subjective case.

Now the largest collection ever has been printed in the largest format ever. Pardon the cliche, but if you must buy one TOF collection, this would be the one. True to the liner notes, it contains many never published works as well as lager repros of well known works. Paper quality and binding are above average.

When you receive your book you will get it shrink wrapped in a stylish cardboard case, with artwork on the outside of the case itself. Also of note the illustration on the dust jacket is raised and textured to match the musculature of the figure, a nice plus. Amazon has the best pricing on this. I was in a retail outlet the other day and saw the same book for $200.

The price is hefty, but once you receive your copy you can see that it is well worth it.

On a final note, based on my experience, these over-sized editions tend to get downsized and cheapened on the second printing. If you want all the extras like the sculpted dust jacket and carrying case buy the 1st edition before it sells out.

A Big Book about a Big Man
Hanson, Dian (editor). “Tom of Finland XXL”, Taschen, 2009.

A Big Book about a Big Man

Amos Lassen

Tom of Finland is an international gay icon whose social and personal impact has been great. He has an intense following within the gay community but has been largely unknown by the rest of the world. Taschen commissioned essays on his impact to accompany this oversized volume which shows the range of his talents and the book is a literal encyclopedia of the man. Together with drawings, sketches and paintings we have the words of Camille Paglia, John Waters, Armistead Maupin, Todd Oldham as well as interpretations by art historian Edward Luce-Smith. The book is large (29 x 40.5 cm and contains 704 pages) and has over 1000 images which cover over 60 years. Collections from all over the world are represented here and the Tom of Finland Foundation oversaw the project. Several works that have never been seen before are within the covers of the book. This is the largest collection ever and it is printed in the largest format.
It is expensive (although Amazon has the best price–$126 instead of $200) but it is worth every penny. The packaging alone is beautiful–the book is contained in a textured slip case. Here is w wonderful tribute to a man who drew what he wanted to draw, even when the time was not right, and lived the life that he wanted to live, unrestrained by society.

Coulda been a contender
As I’ve shared with the editor(and the Foundation, who obviously had some yea/nay approval), this should have been(and at such a price), the definitive edition of the work – start to finish. Instead, the editor’s preference for ‘white space,’ and a ‘look how clever I am’ design style, sadly dimishes the overall effect. Rather than a specific, h-core, chronical of Tom’s life & times, it’s instead a thoughtless disrepect (and regard) for the viewer; re-publishing material already in the Tashen catalog, while some images, rare & obscure, are reproduced as postage stamps. Tashen is richer for my purchase, perhaps you may want to rethink yours.

About the Author
About the editor:
Dian Hanson was born in Seattle in 1951. She has been TASCHEN’s sexy book editor since 2001. Paglia is currently University Professor of Humanities and Media Studies at University of the Arts, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, where she lives with her partner, Alison Maddex.

John Waters was born in 1946 in Baltimore, Maryland, and briefly attended New York University. He made his first film, Hag in a Black Leather Jacket, in 1964, and has since directed 16 others, including Pink Flamingos, Polyester, Hairspray, and Pecker. He lives in Baltimore.

BEWARE!!! Buy something else!
I have the better version of this product (2.2GHz CPU) and its been a week now!! I don’t know whom should I blame?! HP? AMD for the useless CPU? or Microsoft for their useless VISTA?? Internet explorer always freeezes, and/or laptop suddenly restarts, CPU always overheats and I mean it gets REAAAAAALLLY HOT (I thought the screen will melt) – overall performace is very poor and slow. You can not multi task (can’t play music while brwosing the net for example – browser will freeze more often) you can not even open 2 – 3 internet explorer pages simultaneously. Just trust me and avoid disappointment – DO NOT BUY THIS ITEM (I wish I could return it back, I would even accept to loose $300 and get the rest of my money back). One other general comment, if you use your laptop more than 45minutes at a time, do not buy a laptop with touch screen – they hurt your eyes.

Both George Hamilton and Lauren Hutton are astonishing in this movie. It takes the classic Zorro industry and gives it a twist. Don’t inquire of the classic action/adventure epic.

Hamilton plays both Don Diego Vega and Bunny Wigglesworth. Unbeknownst to them, they are the sons of the legendary Zorro.

Buy,Download, Or Stream Zorro, the Gay Blade! Click Here

Vega returns home to earn his childhood friend Esteban in control and a lady from his youth, Florinda (Brenda Vaccaro) married to Esteban. Also, his father has died and left his Zorro costume for his son. Seizing his ‘destiny’, Vega becomes Zorro causing remarkable misfortune to the ruthless Esteban (Ron Leibman) .

He fights the “tyranny and injustices” until he injures his ankle jumping from a window.

Enter Bunny Wigglesworth. Bunny is completely the opposite of his lothario brother–English accent, no tan and loves men. During his brothers recouperation, Bunny takes up the sword–and the whip and many lustrous Zorro costumes.

Buy,Download, Or Stream Zorro, the Gay Blade! Click Here

Adding to the mix is the character played by Lauren Hutton, Charlotte Taylor Wilson. She is a beauty from the east who has arrive west to liberate the downtrodden. Vega is immediately taken by her.

This movie is corpulent of cute lines you will get yourself saying later. Also, the stars of the film (Hamilton, Hutton, Liebman and Vaccaro) are all unbelievable in their roles. (Watching Vaccaro, who’s character is bored with her uninteresting husband, chasing Hamilton is hilarious!)

I highly recommend this film for a immense laugh. I’ve practically used out my VHS copy of Zorro!

This 1981 side-splitting comedy directed by Peter Medak is a fun spoof on the legendary Zorro. A light-comedy with a laughable dwelling that can only compose you laugh.

Buy,Download, Or Stream Zorro, the Gay Blade! Click Here

Don Diego De La Vega (George Hamilton) arrives to Spain’s colony of California to gather it despoiled by the excesses of his feeble friend, Capitan Esteban (Ron Leibman) . He soon uncovers the secret of Zorro from his tiresome father and now becomes the masked protector. Accidentally injured during one of his outings, Don Diego almost calls it quits until his estranged brother, Bunny Wigglesworth (also played by George Hamilton), comes to town to do the day. Although an unabashed dandy in England’s Royal Navy, Bunny takes the challenge and adds a itsy-bitsy zest to the sage of Zorro. With Bunny’s fashionable tastes, Zorro’s sombre costumes soon become lustrous fashion statements of green, purple, and yellow. Bunny also discards the sword and leaves his stale ‘Z’ trace with his whip instead.

A enormous tongue-in-cheek comedy that makes the maximum spoof of the dandy stereotype. The film never takes itself too seriously and offers laughs for the whole family.

In his devastating epic, Darkness Visible: A Legend of Madness, author William Styron recalls wandering the streets of Paris while suffering from suicidal depression, radiant that he may never experience the city again. Louis Malle explores this same psychological wilderness in his 1963 film, The Fire Within (Le feu follet) . The film follows Malle’s films, The Lovers (Les Amants) (1958), Zazie in the Metro (Zazie dans le métro) (1960), and A Very Private Affair (Vie privée) (1962) . Based on the unique by Pierre Drieu La Rochelle, Maurice Ronet (Elevator to the Gallows) gives a smart performance as Alain Leroy, an alcoholic writer at a rest home in Versailles. Sad and disillusioned with his life, Alain decides to commit suicide after first visiting his bourgeois friends in Paris one last time, where within 24 hours, and after finishing Scott Fitzgerald’s Babylon Revisited, he is even more resolved to slay his life. (The are many parallels between the self-destructive lives of Alain Leroy and Fitzgerald. Both are divorced, alcoholic writers living in Paris.) It is deeply affecting to behold Alain drinking at the Café de Flore, lustrous that he is contemplating suicide, and brilliant that he may never experience Paris again. The Fire Within is ultimately a sad recognize in despair and self-destruction, reminiscent in many ways of Rainer Werner Fassbinder’s best work. Jeanne Moreau also stars as fine Alexandra Stewart.

The Criterion edition of The Fire Within features a newly restored digital transfer; interviews with director Louis Malle and actor Maurice Ronet; “Malle’s Fire Within,” a video program featuring interviews with actor Alexandra Stewart and filmmakers Philippe Collin and Volker Schlöndorff; “Jusqu’au 23 Juillet,” a 2005 documentary short about the film and its source fresh Le feu follet, by Pierre Drieu la Rochelle, featuring actor Mathieu Amalric, writer Didier Daeninckx, and Cannes festival curator Pierre-Henri Deleau; and a booklet featuring unusual essays by critic Michel Ciment and film historian Peter Cowie.
Very gripping film well worth watching several times. Not as depressing as it sounds, it is about an ex-alcoholic, tired of life and/or unable to connect with other humans, visiting the friends who he ragged to party with for a last time. Resplendent shots, piquant characters, beneficial acting (also, Jeanne Moreau appears for a few minutes), Paris in the summer.
This has been build up there as the greatest or one of the greatest World Series ever played. It has all the credentials. Sparky Anderson had keep together a titanic team that would remain ample for many years. They had Tony Perez, Joe Morgan, Pete Rose, Johnny Bench and more. The Red Sox had Jim Rice, Fred Lynn and Carl Yastremski for an outfield and Carlton Fisk for a catcher. Yet it is the microscopic known player not destined for Cooperstown who sometimes have a tremendous moment in the World Series. Billy Martin and Bobby Richarson for the 1952 and 1960 Yankees respectively. Al Gionfreddo for his get on Joe D. in 1947. Sandy Amoros for his collect on Yogi Barra in 1955 and many others. In this series there was a very clutch home rush by Bernie Carbo of the Reds.

Of course the most distinguished home speed of th series was Carlton Fisk’s because

(1) It won game 6 for the Red Sox and (2) it took the series to a decisive 7th game and (3) it was so terminate to the left field outrageous pole that Fisk went down the first nefarious line and tried to “wave” the ball fine (a very familiar look every time the home bustle is shown) .

It’s hard for me to imagine owning a better collectible keepsake of the stellar 1975 World Series than what A&E Home Video and Major League Baseball Properties have set aside together for baseball fans here — a 7-Disc DVD compilation featuring all seven games from the unusual NBC-TV network telecasts (with Tony Kubek, Curt Gowdy, Joe Garagiola, and Reds’ play-by-play man Marty Brennaman, among others, at the microphones calling the action) .

All of these games are presented complete and uncut, with two exceptions — a half-inning of Game 2 (top of the 2nd) and 1-and-a-half innings (plus one additional batter) of Game 3 are missing on these DVDs. Evidently that video footage could not be obtained by A&E/MLB for this collector’s place.

The missing moments of Games 2 and 3, however, do not involve either team’s scoring. So no huge home runs, RBIs, or crucial plays are share of the AWOL footage.

————————

THE 1975 WORLD SERIES:

The Cincinnati Reds and the Boston Red Sox battled each other over the course of seven memorable baseball games during the plunge of 1975. The Reds, managed by 41-year-old South Dakota native George “Sparky” Anderson, barely squeezed by the A.L.-champion Sox, 4 games to 3, to select Cincy’s first world-championship title since 1940.

This ’75 Descend Classic is regarded by many fans as the very best and most animated World Series ever played. Five of the seven games were decided by fair a lone hasten (including each of the last two thrilling contests played at cozy Fenway Park in Boston) .

The “Immense Red Machine” of Cincinnati steamrolled its device to the National League pennant in ’75, winning 108 regular-season games and then sweeping the Pittsburgh Pirates in the NLCS in three straight. The Reds won the N.L. Western Division by an amazingly-decisive 20 games over their nearest rivals (the second-place Dodgers) .

Cincinnati’s imposing “starting eight” in 1975 was one of the best and most potent lineups ever place on a baseball diamond. Here’s a peep at the impressive lineup that National League pitchers (and Boston’s hurlers in the WS) had the difficult task of facing in ’75 — with some 1975 regular-season numbers also listed (B.A./HR/RBI) :

C — Johnny Bench (.283/28/110)

1B — Tony Perez (.282/20/109)

2B — Joe Morgan (.327/17/94 …. Was named NL MVP in ’75)

SS — Dave Concepcion (.274/5/49)

3B — Pete Rose (.317/7/74)

LF — George Foster (.300/23/78)

CF — Cesar Geronimo (.257/6/53)

RF — Ken Griffey Sr. (.305/4/46)

The 1975 Red Sox, piloted by 47-year-old Darrell Johnson, proved to be splendid opponents for Sparky’s Red Machine in the post-season (to say the least) . The Bosox won 95 games during their A.L. regular campaign in ’75, and they breezed past the Oakland A’s in three straight playoff games (ending Oakland’s chance at winning its fourth World Series title in a row following the A’s “three-peat” in 1972-73-74) .

Boston, like the N.L. Reds on the other side of the diamond, had their league’s MVP — 23-year-old Fred Lynn, who also doubled as the American League Rookie-of-the-Year in 1975 as well. Lynn’s fine first-year stats in ’75 included a .331 average, with 21 home runs, and 105 RBIs (plus an impressive .566 slugging percentage) .

Lynn gave an indication of his productive seasons to arrive by scheme of his brief ‘cup of coffee’ with the Red Sox at the ruin of the 1974 season, when he batted .419 in 15 games (with a .698 slugging notice) . But Freddie tranquil genuine as a “rookie” in ’75.

The Sox roster also featured the likes of Carl Yastrzemski, Dwight Evans, Bill Lee, Rick Burleson, Carlton Fisk, Luis Tiant, Rico Petrocelli, Rick Wise, and Jim Rice. Rice (.309/22 HR/102 RBI in ’75), fortunately for the Reds, was injured and could not play in a single game of the World Series.

By the contrivance, Boston skipper Darrell Johnson, ironically, was a back-up catcher for the Reds for parts of two seasons (1961 and 1962), which included a career-high .315 batting average for the pennant-winning ’61 Reds’ squad (albeit in fair 20 games; 54 AB; 1 HR) .

The ’75 World Series, numbers-wise, was about as evenly-matched as you could gather — with the Reds batting a collective .242 (59 substandard hits), while the Red Sox swung the straggle at a combined .251 clip, with 60 hits.

Other tightly-knit WS stats:

Runs Scored:

Reds 29; Sox 30.

Team ERA:

Reds 3.88; Sox 3.86.

Cincinnati third baseman Pete Rose was named the MVP for this ’75 World Series. Pete batted .370 during the seven games (10-for-27), with 3 runs scored, 2 RBIs, and 5 walks.

I can vividly select watching these games on television in ’75, plus one game that I saw in person, which was Game #4 at Riverfront Stadium in Cincinnati, Sadly, for me (being a Reds’ rooter), that one turned out to be a Reds’ loss, as Luis Tiant picked up his second complete-game score in the Series, defeating Cincy 5-4. A standing-room-only crowd of 55,667 crammed into Riverfront that Wednesday night (10/15/75) .

Via this nice DVD space, I can now survey that fourth Series game in my living room, instead of from the seat that I occupied in Peanut Heaven (aka: the “Nosebleed Portion”) in left-center field at Riverfront succor in ’75 (Upper Deck; Aisle #339; Row 10; Seat 102) . Even though that was hardly the best seat in the house, it’s quiet a astronomical childhood baseball memory….to have attended a game during one of the most illustrious World Series in baseball history.

I tranquil have the brand stub from that game too (the label cost honest $10.00, which must be a topple in the bucket compared to WS trace prices in the 21st century…even for seats up in Peanut Heaven) .

For those who can remember watching all seven of these classic Reds/Red Sox battles wait on in 1975, this DVD Collector’s Edition will easily rekindle every single memory without noteworthy prodding at all.

Memories such as:

>> Luis Tiant’s gyrations on the mound. (Was Tiant “balking”? Sparky Anderson and the Reds belief so.)

>> The “Fisk/Armbrister” rhubarb in Game 3 at Riverfront Stadium. (Was it really interference? You determine. You’ll glance the replay a dozen times thanks to the Game-Three DVD provided in this collection.)

>> The persistent Unusual England rain that resulted in a three-day delay prior to Game Six.

>> The two pinch-hit homers by mature Red Bernie Carbo (one in Game 3 and an astounding three-run, game-tying monster shot in Game 6, that sent the Fenway Park crowd into a frenzy) .

>> Joe Morgan’s game-winning RBI blooper in Game 7.

>> The Dwight Evans “acquire” of Joe Morgan’s wreck.

>> Tony Perez “connecting” on a super-duper Bill Lee blooper pitch in Game 7. (Lee, IMO, should have been hurry out of Boston town on a rail for gallant to throw that ridiculous circus-like pitch in Game #7 of a World Series to ANY member of the “Ample Red Machine”. It was a bomb ready to explode in Lee’s face. And it did.)

>> George Foster’s throw from left field to Johnny Bench in Game 6 to nail Denny Doyle at the plate. (I can vividly engage the ecstasy of seeing the umpire’s “out” call to complete this double play and sustain Game 6 tied.)

>> Cesar Geronimo squeezing Carl Yastrzemski’s lofty flee ball to center field for the final out in Game 7.

>> And, of course, The “Please End Exquisite” Home Bustle …. i.e., Carlton Fisk’s Game-Six walk-off clout off the irascible pole to knot the Series at 3-3.

And it’s all here in this comprehensive DVD position from A&E/MLB. Every game. Every clutch hit. Every home rush. (Sans the TV commercials; those have not been included here.)

————————

THE DVDs AND THE PACKAGING:

The packaging, the explore, and the overall presentation for this 7-Disc DVD Collector’s Edition is first-class all the device down the line. It couldn’t possibly be any better, IMO.

Each of the seven World Series games gets its maintain separate single-sided disc, with elegant bright-red disc art.

The video quality for all of these games looks fair decent in most places to me, being little, of course, by the age of the decades-old novel taped source material. Close-up shots are definitely clearer and more sparkling than are the longer, more-distant camera shots, which suffer from worthy “ghosting”; and all of these games will no doubt search for better on a smaller TV hide. The bigger your monitor, the more digital annoyances you’re likely to peep. But, overall, I’m cheerful with the PQ here.

Unlike baseball telecasts nowadays, you’re not going to fetch all of the flashy graphics or the constant barrage of detailed stats on your mask in these ’75 games. Baseball broadcasts in 1975 were remarkable “quieter” and less frenetic, with less gripping around of the camera and far fewer instant replays (and no “Fox Box” telling you the regain up in the corner all the time) .

The cover ratio for these games is the unique Full-Frame television ratio of 1.33:1, as it should be. Audio is supplied by more-than-adequate-sounding Dolby Digital 2.0 soundtracks. (Evidently, per the packaging, the audio is in “2.0 Stereo”; but it sounds about the same as 2.0 Mono for the real game coverage.)

An audio glitch exists, however, during Game 1. For 1.5 innings leisurely in that first game the audio is totally out-of-sync with the video, with the describe running ahead of the sound by approx. 10 seconds. It’s a bit of a goofy glitch, in that the A/V aren’t even end to being in-sync. Curious how that would sneak through to the finished DVD. But it did.

However, the footage with the audio dilemma (like the missing footage from Games 2 and 3) does not involve any run-scoring plays on the portion of either team.

Another negative factor to these DVDs is the ever-present “MLB” watermark (logo) that has been placed in the upper right-hand corner of the cover throughout this entire DVD dwelling. I can’t say I really like that logo being stuck up there 100% of the time. However, at least it’s not too intrusive, and it blends fairly well into the background (because the watermark customary here is a transparent one) .

But even with a few things to gripe about, this World Series DVD area is, without a doubt IMHO, aloof a mandatory buy for long-time Reds’ fans.

The Packaging…..

Each disc/(game) gets its possess slim (certain) plastic case. The covers for the seven cases are jam-packed with all kinds of fun facts, trivia, and ’75 Series statistics. These “SleeveStats” also provide the complete box net for each Series game, printed factual on the support of each game’s case.

Plus, on the inside of each case, the play-by-play for each and every inning of that game is printed out. So, at a peruse, you can peer what every batter did in each of these WS games.

A huge amount of work and detail and research has obviously gone into creating the “SleeveStats” for these DVD covers. There’s so noteworthy text, data, and fun stuff on these cases, unprejudiced reading all of the info on them takes an hour or more.

And the box scores on these DVD covers save my homemade, handwritten-in-pencil box scores of the same games to shame. It’s kind of fun, however, to go through my possess handmade scorecards for these games (that I created when the World Series was playing out on live TV in ’75) and compare them to the DVD’s stats and to the real-time action when watching the games on these discs.

All seven slim cases fit comfortably into a very nice outer slipcase box (which is also brimming with additional statistics and trivia) . And this outer carton is not any flimsy, tissue-paper-thin throwaway box either. It’s constructed method better than that. It’s very durable, heavy, and sturdy. “Modern Video” (which distributed this position for A&E Home Video in the USA), in fact, has been very favorable about supplying well-constructed boxes for its multi-disc (or multi-VHS tape) sets. And this one is objective perfect, and is certainly one DVD box that should be able to stand the test of time.

I devour the anxiety that went into producing this collectible boxed place. It has the gaze and feel of a qualified “keepsake”. Plus, the accuracy and attention to dinky details that can be found on these DVD cases is also impressive, good down to listing the “Game Time Temperature” for each of the seven Series contests.

The perfection of this DVD area, for me, even extends to the type of slim cases worn to maintain the discs. I’m kind of a persnickety fusspot when it comes to packaging and case types, and the slim cases utilized here are (IMO) the best ticket out there. They occupy the discs firmly, but not like a vise. The DVDs are very easily removed from their holders/hubs. I’m not obvious of the steady ticket name of this case type, but the ones in the spot I received are by far my common designate. (I’m assuming all other copies of this product have the same type of inner cases included; but that might not always be honest, given the big number of DVD case manufacturers in existence.)

I haven’t been able to plot any errors of any major substance when reading these info-packed DVD covers. I have notorious a couple of very minor errors, however, including an inaccurate date shown for the no-hitter that Rick Wise threw against the Reds. The DVD case indicates that Wise tossed that no-no in 1972. It actually occurred in 1971 (06/23/71) .

And what makes that particular no-hit game so extra-special is the fact that Wise also hit TWO home runs in the contest — which made that game one of THE most spectacular “one-man shows” in baseball history (a fact that I reflect is often overlooked by historians) . Rick Wise was a one-player wrecking crew that night at Riverfront Stadium.

Luckily for the Reds, Mr. Wise (a member of the Red Sox in 1975) wasn’t able to expose his no-hit performance during his one ’75 WS launch. The Reds tagged him for 5 runs in 4.1 innings in Game 3. Wise, however, did choose up the salvage in the nefarious Game #6 at Fenway Park.

Another slight mistake on the packaging (and on the DVD Menus) involves the spelling of Cincinnati radio announcer Marty Brennaman’s last name. Marty’s name is misspelled more than one time on the boxes and the Menus. I’m guessing, though, that Marty is probably accustomed to that type of error re. his name. I can characterize to that type of thing myself.

————————

BONUS MATERIALS:

A few nice bonus items are fragment of this aesthetic boxed site too. All of these extras are located on the “Game 7″ disc. There are 30 individual “Bonus Clips”, mainly consisting of short 1-to-2-minute interview segments with the players that were recorded in the last few years.

But in addition to the newer, contemporary interviews, there are a few vintage 1975 pre-game and post-game interview snippets on tap here as well — including an interview with Carlton Fisk unbiased after he smacked his never-to-be-forgotten home race in Game 6.

There’s no “Play All” option for these thirty Bonus Clips, which would have been useful here I judge. But, instead, returning to the “Bonus” Sub-Menu is required to thought the clips individually.

There are two other short bonus items on Disc 7 that I very great enjoyed seeing — “Downtown Rally” (1:07 in length) and “Introducing ‘The Immense Red Machine’” (1:48) .

The “Rally” bonus was filmed in downtown Cincinnati in leisurely October 1975. The victory celebration clip features Commissioner Bowie Kuhn’s presentation of the World Series trophy and a few comments made by Reds’ players.

The “Introducing” bonus consists of Reds’ player introductions before one of the three games played at Riverfront Stadium. Long-time Cincinnati P.A. announcer Paul Sommerkamp is the converse heard here.

In addition to the above-mentioned bonus items, the Reds’ post-game clubhouse celebration (with NBC-TV interviews) is also included on Disc 7. That clubhouse footage isn’t found in the “Bonus” situation of the disc, but instead can be located at the extinguish of the regular Game-Seven telecast on Disc Seven. And I’m very delighted that was included in this package, because it puts the satisfactory “We’re #1″ cap on the Reds’ sizable 115-win 1975 season.

The clubhouse footage features some classic Reds’ interviews too….especially Marty Brennaman’s dazzling interviews with Series MVP Pete Rose and the super-excited and voice-cracking Johnny Bench. Rose’s comment about how he felt like he was about to “have a coronary” due to the intense excitement of Game 7 always cracks me up.

————————

OTHER DVD INFO:

Total Running Time (All Discs) — Approx. 17.25 hours (not counting the extra bonus features) .

Menus — The Interactive Menus are very well-designed. A brief intro/montage of “Reds’ Baseball Action” has been integrated into the Main Menu (upon initial disc load-up only) . No music. Menu choices: “Play Ball!” (to commence watching that disc’s game) and “Inning Selection”. An additional option for “Bonus Clips” is show for Disc 7 only.

The “Inning Selection” situation is very icy, exhibiting a nifty “baseball-flavored” create. When going to the “Inning” Sub-Menu, the burly inning-by-inning line salvage for that game is visible (including the final “Runs-Hits-Errors” totals) . A “baseball” icon enables the user to navigate within the line accumulate, with any half-inning being selectable.

The Main Menu screens for all discs are shimmering and behold spacious on a great 50-inch mask….especially the colorful and gratified Cincinnati Reds’ “wishbone C” (circa 1970s) logo, which features estimable ol’ #27 running inside the logo. (#27 being the then-Reds’ mascot, known as “Mister Red”. Interestingly, during the years when this cool-looking team logo was being dilapidated, the Reds never assigned a genuine player the number “27″. It was reserved exclusively for “Mister Red”.)

————————

A FINAL Pleasing RECOMMENDATION:

A “Astronomical Red Machine”-era Cincinnati Reds’ fan (or anyone who appreciates darn-good baseball) can’t back but be inflamed about this obedient DVD location of virtually-uncut games, highlighting one of the greatest World Series of all time.

“The Cincinnati Reds 1975 World Series Collector’s Edition” is destined to be one of my most-treasured DVDs ever purchased.
Lumosity
How To Raise Your Credit Score
Quit Smoking Cigarettes
E Cigarettes

Recently I went to a theater showing the Disney remake, Flubber, starring Robin Williams. Although I peaceful grasp the fresh The Absent Minded Professor, Flubber was a whole lot of fun.

Robin Williams plays a science professor looking for a original gain of energy. As the film opens, Williams is already in trouble of missing his occupy wedding for the third time. But while guests wait patiently Williams discovers the semi-intelligent Flubber. Remarkable of the rest of the film is spent trying to obtain wait on the heart of his fiance and subsequently effect the collage from bankruptcy and closure. Williams is aided in his endeavors by two robots. The first is an exceptionally genuine housekeeping robot. The second is a levitating, self-aware intelligence with chunky emotions. While fun companions movie-wise, the technical aspects of these robots would be more than enough for Williams to keep the college. In the Ruin Williams wins support his fiancé, defeats the dreadful guys trying to terminate the college and finds a future for Flubber.

While Flubber is very delectable it seems like the writers added details for the sake of cuteness without thinking about the implications. Williams is looking for a unique energy source yet he has a robot that can defy gravity and powered by simple electricity. He needs a discovery worth money yet he has two very successful and useful robots, one of them alive. Flubber itself has been made into some kind of life produce. This may be gracious for merchandising but one can only wonder about the source of powdered Flubber or the implications of flight resulting from intentionally causing the organism’s decay. Selling the rights to flying cars to Ford made for a silly scene but now there can potentially be millions of semi-responsible drivers flying through the country’s airlanes while carrying radioactive materials. Additionally, a few scenes were changed from the modern and are now less plausible. For instance, in the unique, the fiancé calls the professor when he is slow for the wedding again.

Buy,Download, Or Stream Disney’s Flubber! Click Here

So if you are looking for fun then this is your movie. However, if you tend to rebel at inconsistencies and like your plots to effect sense, then you might want to avoid this one. It’s up to you.

The movie is a huge sprint, with some marvelous humor and energy. After seeing the chilly flying robotic assistant and the flying car, it made me devour dreaming and innovating. Some of those negative reviews were apparently given by those with the sense of humor of a section of wood. Robin Williams is mountainous at playing an absent minded professor, with some hillarious statements and events. His fiance was a sizable companion in the movie, with her sweet disposition.
San Francisco Wedding Photographer
Electronic Cigarettes Starter Kit
San Francisco Wedding Photographer
Quit Smoking Cigarette

The Secret is one of the best produced and edited DVDs of its kind that I have ever seen. And the line-up of teachers and presenters is genuine. There is only one reason I give this DVD four stars instead of five. The Secret is about the Law of Attraction, and how we can consume that Law to “attract” into our lives anything we want. But it spends 95% of the time talking only about being focused on what you want (rather than what you don’t want), and generating distinct feelings about that. It only spends 5% of the time making it certain that what we really attract into our lives is the people, circumstances, and opportunities that lead us to what we want. In other words, when we use the principles mentioned in The Secret, doors inaugurate. But we have to glance those doors for what they are and go through them. And that involves action. Many people who survey The Secret glide away with the impression that visualization and clear feelings is all it takes. It isn’t. You aloof have to do something. As long as you preserve that in mind, The Secret contains information that can be life altering. Like!

Buy,Download, Or Stream The Secret! Click Here

Steven Lane Taylor, Author of Row, Row, Row Your Boat: A Guide For Living Life In The Divine Flow

With all the hype about The Secret, I was keen to win out what everyone was talking about. I bought both the DVD and the CD space and watched with mammoth anticipation.

Perhaps because I have studied and utilized for over 2 decades some of the most much mindset tools, processes and technologies for creating what you want, my expectations may have been skewed compared to those who have never heard of or applied such concepts as the law of attraction.

Buy,Download, Or Stream The Secret! Click Here

That is not to say the DVD/CD does not have value. I am obvious there are people whose lives have been changed by it. I reflect they did an outstanding marketing job. An outstanding “packaging” job in creating The Secret. The attraction principles do work, and they provided a broad introduction to those who have not been exposed to them before.

For me personally, my first disappointment was the fact that what was dramatically (and cleverly) built up as “a secret” – which to me something you know that I don’t – was hardly a secret. These principles have been around for centuries, have been mainstream for decades, with thousands of books, seminars, etc. covering the same principles. I don’t indulge in books, tapes, etc. that overpromise and under protest. So, to me, hardly a secret.

My second disappointment was the lack of depth around the subject matter. If you want more in-dpeth and leading edge info about how our thoughts gain our reality, invest in the DVD “What the Bleep? ” It offers absorbing leading edge quantum physics principles, along with mammoth animation explaining in simple layman terms, why and how we gain our realities. In fact, some of the scientists on The Secret *first* appeared in “What the Bleep? ” I almost felt when I was watching The Secret, that they copied “What the Bleep? ” in many respects, although at a more superficial level.

My third disappointment/concern is how some Secret followers will define the messagge in the movie. Again my perspective may be slightly skewed because I trained in and work with NLP (Neurolinguistic Programmming) which works drectly with the subconscious mind for helping people obtain accelerated breakthroughs in their lives. The suggestions, recommmended processes, etc. in The Secret work primarily with the conscious mind. Yet it is our subconscious mind that drives 80% of our behaviors and outcomes in life.

Yes, if you practice their recommendations for months and months, the suggestions may eventually sink into our subconscious. However there are simpler, quicker ways to earn what you want. The other fraction of that, because the subconscious mind does drive our results, there are many blocks — such as “secondary gains” for staying stuck, values conflicts, tiny beliefs, etc. – below our conscious awareness that stops us from having what we want. Because the movie does not address the dissimilarity between the conscious mind and the subconscious mind, and treats the whole topic superficially as why some people manifest and some don’t, it creates the illusion that as long as you practice their suggestions, you will change your life. There is so worthy more than what is presented as to what are the differences that manufacture the incompatibility to creating what you want.

While I am delighted that so many people are becoming more aware of these principles, I am concerned about the fallout as well. I am hearing people do potentially noxious things like go into deeper debt, making dramatic life changes with blind faith, because the DVD tells them they can have what they want if they unprejudiced fill, etc.

I would suggest if you bewitch the DVD to recall a few things that most resonated with you, and apply them to your life, as long as you don’t sacrifice or overhaul other areas of your life without looking at the sizable report. Sort out the glitz from the message. Also check what is not proper for you and let go of it.

I would recommend the movie “what the bleep? ” It goes hand in hand with The Secret, although more in depth and was the new movie that brought these concepts mainstream.

Third, I recommend that you check out book on NLP (as well as hypnosis which is a sister discipline) .
Mortal men might be ashamed at their pudginess, laziness, and gastronomical obsession, but not Jim Gaffigan. Instead, Gaffigan uses these characteristics as punchlines that have surely earned him hundreds of dollars as he travels the country to enlighten the masses how powerful of a pig he is, and how they blooming grand are too. Unique off his widely successful Beyond the Pale DVD, released in 2006, Jim Gaffigan has decided to once again grace us with his shockingly pale presence in his newest DVD, King Baby.

Filmed during a stint in Austin, Texas, King Baby is perhaps best mature as a pedagogical tool. In it we learn the wonders of meat, the absurdities of camping, and the sheer genius of the escalator and snooze bar. Of course, this is not all as there are many other topics discussed to both gladden the heart and advise the mind.

Most known for his “Hot Pockets” bit, Gaffigan spends most of his time on stage talking about food in ways both memorable and ethereal. After spending a petite over an hour at the feet of this master of burlesque, the student will no doubt desire to adorn all food with bacon (or at least the most magical compose of bacon: the bits of bacon), only achieving perfection if done while lounging on the couch and watching television at the same time.

In addition to the main feature, this disc also contains many insightful extras. These include Comedy Central commercials for both the Beyond the Pale and King Baby specials, interviews with the baron of jest himself, PSAs for “Our Massive Planet,” and three “Pale Force” appealing shorts.

If anyone can form jokes about bacon, being idle, playing bowling and hot pockets for long period of time and beget people laugh, Jim Gaffigan can definitely originate it happen!

With the success of Gaffigan’s Comedy Central DVD “Beyond the Pale”, Gaffigan returns with “King Baby”. From the starting menu of the DVD featuring two young kids pigging out on BBQ ribs, you know that you’re going to be in for a fun time.

Filmed in Austin which capped off his sold-out 2008 stand-up tour, Gaffigan is on fire as his routine consists of going out bowling, being idle, going camping, his bedroom, ketchup, waffle house and of course, being known for his comedy routine about bacon and worthy, distinguished more.

Featuring 30 minutes of extra footage not glance in the “Comedy Central” special, Gaffigan’s comedy at best is comedy that doesn’t have to gather explicit. He literally talks about everyday things that people believe about and makes it comical. From getting a disease by putting your finger in the holes of a bowling ball to losing a remote while your laying down and of course, America’s esteem for bacon. These jokes are laughable because people have experienced them and immediately know what he’s talking about.

His comedic delivery is serene and constant and at times even poking fun at himself and using a high or an effeminate issue when criticizing his contain jokes. So, overall, “King Baby” was an appetizing live performance by Gaffigan but despite the 70-minute runtime, you realize how worthy special features are packed on this DVD. And there are a lot!

VIDEO & AUDIO:

“King Baby” is featured in widescreen. Recount quality is expedient with splendid angles from the front, side and towards the audience and above the audience. Superb editing and overall, easy to seek. No dizzying camera angle switching.

As for the audio, audio is presented in English Stereo and English 5.1 Surround. Audio is determined and you hear both Gaffigan and the audience quite clearly.

SPECIAL FEATURES:

As exquisite as the 70-minute comedy performance for Gaffigan, share of the enjoyment of this DVD is watching the many hilarious special features included. This DVD is packed with special features! “King Baby” comes with the following Special Features:

    * Featurette: Pale Force – As seen on the “Conan O’Brien” comes “Pale Force”. In “Dogs”, Prof. Turgeon talks about how to advance a dog.

* Featurette: Never Aired British Interview – A British interview introducing Jim Gaffigan to UK audiences and about his “Sexy Tour”. Gaffigan talking about letting his sexiness out and how he became a comedian. A featurette that is nearly seven minutes long.

* Featurette: Atlanta: Meet and Greet On Question – A advance 10-minute featurette about Gaffigan’s comedy tour and his discontinuance in Atlanta. Meeting with the fans and talking about his experience in Atlanta.

* Featurette: The Sexy Tour — Friday Night Stand Up – Features nine hilarious “Friday Night Stand Up” commercial segments with Gaffigan promoting a tour because he feels he is very sexy but yet everyone around him thinks he’s unsexy.

* Featurette: The Beyond the Pale Tour – Friday Night Stand Up – Features eleven hilarious “Friday Night Stand Up” commercial segments promoting Gaffigan’s “The Beyond the Pale Tour”. Each segment is about a 30-seconds to a tiny long.

JUDGMENT CALL:

“KING BABY” is another appetizing comedy performance from Jim Gaffigan. Compared to many comedians featured on Comedy Central DVD’s that would find into the sex and fall a bit of profanity in their routine, Gaffigan’s comedy is not risque or profane. It’s straight up comedy about subjects that everyday people often wonder about and it’s objective the scheme it’s delivered is how hilarious it can be.

I can type an example of his jokes on this review and realize, by typing it…it won’t be comical. It’s all about Gaffigan’s delivery of the jokes, one after the other and he can go on five minutes about bacon and people will level-headed be laughing. His demeanor is serene and when he says he’s a indolent guy or talks about distinct foods, you kind of fill he’s not BS’ing and that his comedy is section of the design he really perceives things.

That is the upside to his comedic performance, the downside is that some jokes may go a bit too long for some people. Some may wonder how long can Gaffigan joke about bacon and the fact that he’s talking about bacon or ketchup, some may derive his comedy a bit too righteous. No hardcore sex jokes, no making fun of people in the audience, it’s straightforward comedy about things in life that are daily occurrences but Gaffigan knows how to acquire those things and acquire it comic.

And as mentioned, 70-minutes of concert performance is titanic but Gaffigan fans will truly be pleased to know that there are a friendly number of special features included on the DVD. If there was anything that I could of hoped for is that like a few other Comedy Central DVD’s, some approach with a CD of the loyal live performance. That would have been chilly to listen to some Gaffigan on a long commute and I hope they deem it for his next comedy DVD release.

All in all, Gaffigan’s style of comedy may not be for everyone. For those who are wanting comedy with profanity and jokes about ethnicities or sex, this is not one of those comedy DVD’s. But if you are wanting to glance a comedian who can manufacture jokes out of topics such as bowling, laziness, ketchup, garbage bags, pillows, deodorant, bacon and more… Gaffigan knows how to explain. Definitely check “King Baby” out!
Wedding Album Designs
Quit Smoking Cigarettes
San Francisco Wedding Videographer
Electronic Cigarettes

It is surprising to learn that wireless communication has been with us for well over 100 years.

Ken Burns’ inspired documentary about the creation and evolution of radio is told primarily through biographies of three dynamic individuals: Lee de Forest, Edwin Howard Armstrong, and David Sarnoff.

This is not a sentimental and syrupy look-back to a bygone era. Radio seems to have been the prodigal child born of a dysfunctional family of inventors and marketeers.

The drama is compelling; the technology, primary to our fresh plan of life.

Buy,Download, Or Stream Empire of the Air: The Men Who Made Radio! Click Here

Don’t miss it!

In many ways I collect Empire of the Air to be the finest documentry by the highly acclaimed film maker, Ken Burns. Certainly The Civil War is grander and more episodic. Jazz is perhaps more spellbinding. And Baseball touches the very soul of America. But Empire of the Air demonstrates how far reaching radio changed the entire political, entertainment and economic landscape of America in the first half of the twentieith century. The impact of radio stands unprecidented in the field of invention.

Think about it, if you were eager in almost any industry in America during radio’s golden era, it more likley than not was dependant upon radio. With pitch-man like “Swiftly Alka-Seltzer”, the mmm-mmm-good Campbells Soup Kids, Phillip Morris’s Page-Boy and Bert & Harry Piels, it was radio that created original markets for soaps and soups, remedies and hair-care products, oil and gasoline, tobacco and beer, soda pop and sweets, milk and dairy products, insurance and automobiles, clothes washers and vacuum cleaners and almost any other consumer product available at the time.

Radio also provided an information orderly highway that was unimiginable before its time. Farmers could net up-to-the-minute weather reports. World events were reported on a real-time basis and sporting events were brought correct into a young boy’s home. The radio dial became a beacon to global news.

Imiagine a world with all this and entertainment that could captiviate an entire family for hours at a time. Surely it was miraculous to be listening to Jack Benny, Fred Allen, Red Barber, Franklin D. Roosevelt, Bob Hope or Billy Sunday suitable in one’s have living room. You felt as if you were transported accross the globe to historic events. You could hear the sounds of artillery at places like Dunkirk, The Arden Forrest and Normandy. You were a living ogle to the towering achievements of the early twentieth century. Events like Lindberg’s Atlantic crossing, Caruso’s debut at Current York’s Metropolitan Opera House and Babe Ruth’s despicable “called-shot” at Wrigley Field in Chicago.

The account of radio and its principle inventors and innovators is beautifully told in photographs and archival recordings. Ken Burns expertly guides us into the lives of Lee DeForrest, the self proclaimed “father of radio”, Edwin Armstrong, quick-witted pioneer and visionary and David Sarnoff, who lived by the credo, “I don’t glean ulcers, I give them”. We gawk how fierce battle lines were drawn first between De Forrest and Armstrong and later between Armstrong and Sarnoff.
